Privacy Policy — Anchor

Information Anchor handles

To provide its user-facing features, Anchor may access or store:

• the webpage hostname and pathname used to identify the page for saved anchors; Anchor does not store the full URL, query string, hash, or page title in the anchor key;
• saved anchor positions, anchor-slot information, the selected slot, and the time an anchor state was saved;
• text the user chooses to highlight and capture;
• notes entered for saved anchors;
• note-panel state and the saved widget/control position;
• the blocked-site list;
• settings and preferences such as enabled state, compact controls, appearance/color preferences, and export format.

Webpage information is accessed only as needed for user-facing Anchor features such as creating anchors, capturing selected text, showing Anchor controls, and returning to saved positions.

Where your information is stored

Saved anchor positions, anchor-slot state, highlighted text, and notes are stored in Chrome’s local extension storage. Anchor uses a key based on the webpage hostname and pathname, so query strings, URL fragments, and page titles are not part of that page identifier.

Anchor stores certain preferences in Chrome’s synchronized extension storage, including whether the extension is enabled, compact-controls preference, appearance/color preference, blocked sites, and saved widget position. Chrome may synchronize these preferences across Chrome browsers where you are signed in and Chrome Sync is enabled. The popup’s selected export format is stored in local extension storage.

Anchor does not operate its own account system or cloud database.

What Anchor sends

Anchor currently has no analytics or telemetry system and no Anchor-operated backend. Anchor does not transmit saved anchors, highlighted text, or notes to Anchor or to a third-party server. Exported notes are created and downloaded through the browser when you choose to export them.

Chrome and the websites you visit may process information under their own policies and permissions.

Sharing and selling data

Anchor does not sell personal information or browsing data. Anchor does not transfer saved anchors, highlighted text, notes, or browsing activity to advertising platforms, data brokers, or information resellers. Anchor does not use browsing activity, saved text, notes, or anchor information for advertising, profiling, or marketing.

Your controls and data retention

You can control your Anchor data by:

• clearing saved anchors with Clear All Anchors;
• changing or resetting available preferences, including appearance and compact controls;
• managing the blocked-site list;
• exporting Anchor Notes to a file.

Uninstalling Anchor or clearing extension or browser data may remove stored information according to Chrome’s storage behavior. Exported files are normal files on your device and are outside Anchor’s control after download. If information is important, export or back it up before clearing data or uninstalling Anchor.

External services

Anchor may contain links to external services such as the Chrome Web Store or Buy Me a Coffee. If you follow one of those links, the external service handles information under its own privacy policy and terms.

The Anchor website is hosted by a third-party hosting provider, which may process standard technical request information, such as your IP address and browser information, as necessary to deliver the website under its own privacy practices.

Chrome Web Store Limited Use

The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Anchor uses information obtained through Chrome extension APIs only as necessary to provide or improve disclosed user-facing features. Anchor does not use or transfer Chrome API information for personalized advertising, data brokerage, credit decisions, or other purposes prohibited by Chrome Web Store policy.

Changes to this policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated if Anchor’s features or data practices change. The Last Updated date shows when this page was most recently revised.
